Brexit and the residence document for British citizens in Poland

Although the UK has definitively left the European Union as of 1 February 2020, the question of the legality of the stay of British citizens in Poland remains relevant.

Under the Withdrawal Agreement, British citizens and their family members may continue to reside in Poland without the need to obtain residence documents. However, they are highly desirable for practical reasons. Their possession will exempt from future registration in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) for crossing external borders and from the need to obtain an ETIAS travel permit in connection with short-term travel to EU/Schengen countries. These systems are expected to be operational in 2024.

An application for a residence document should be submitted to the provincial office with jurisdiction over the place of residence.
